About

The Student Connexion provides independent, student-focused guidance to help navigate post-school decisions with clarity and confidence.

The aim is not to direct students toward a single outcome, but to help them understand their options, ask better questions, and make informed choices that suit their individual circumstances.

The Student Connexion offers one-on-one sessions with an experienced higher education professional to help students and their families understand subject choices, pathways, and course options, and clearly outline the next steps to reach their goals.

An independent approach

Guidance is provided independently and is not affiliated with any university, TAFE, or training provider. This means conversations can focus on what genuinely makes sense for each student, without pressure to follow a particular pathway.

Sessions are practical, neutral, and grounded in a clear understanding of how the Australian higher education system works.

National experience in higher education

Ben Gillam, Founder – The Student Connexion

The Student Connexion is led by Ben Gillam, an education professional with 15 years of experience across secondary and tertiary education.

Ben began his career as a secondary school teacher before moving into higher education and university student recruitment, giving him a rare end-to-end understanding of how subject choices, entry requirements, and tertiary pathways connect in practice.

Having worked across multiple Australian universities in student recruitment and engagement roles, Ben supports students and careers teachers across every state and territory. He has a strong understanding of state and territory application systems, including UAC, QTAC, VTAC, SATAC, TISC, as well as direct entry pathways. He works closely with students at key decision points, helping them navigate ATAR expectations, pathway options, and post-school planning with clarity and confidence.

At the heart of The Student Connexion is a calm, independent approach that creates space to discuss things through, challenge common assumptions, and reduce the overwhelm that often accompanies further study decisions.
